Can radishes be frozen in winter?
You can, but not for long. The whole difficulty lies in the composition of the vegetable. When frozen in a home freezer, the fruit crystallizes... Simply put, when you start defrosting it, you will not get an elastic hard radish, but a spreading porridge without taste.
There is, of course, a way out. You can freeze it in a specialized chamber, where the temperature is two times lower than in those in our house. But such a camera is used in industrial production.
But the hostesses do not give up and are looking for more and more new ways to preserve the vegetable - they will be discussed later.
How the composition and taste will change after freezing
If you freeze the radish for 5-7 days, then you will not feel much change.... The taste is the same, there is a crunch, there is a bitterness. The same applies to methods of preserving radishes in a jar of water or in whole with tops. But later, the vegetable will rapidly begin to lose all the benefits that it accumulated while in the soil. And with this, alas, nothing can be done.
Other ways of harvesting radish:
Training
Proper preparation of fruits - the key to successful freezing:
- choose fruits of late varieties, ripe or slightly unripe - overripe radishes are not suitable for freezing;
- rinse vegetables thoroughly and remove all dirt;
- cut off the ponytails;
- cut the fruit into large slices;
- spread on waffle towels, dry.
note... In some recipes, radish is not cut into slices, but grated. Many housewives freeze radishes whole. It all depends on the specific method and your preferences.
How to freeze radishes for the winter
Further we will detail let's talk about the most popular ways to preserve a vegetable - we present to your attention recipes for harvesting radish for the winter, including freezing in several versions.

- Place in the freezer for 10 minutes.
- Extract the package after 10 minutes.

It is precisely stress freezing that is needed before long-term storage.... If this is not possible for you, then it is better to save the radish in another way. Otherwise, you run the risk of getting just a mushy mixture without taste when defrosting.
If for some reason you need to freeze the radish for only 4-5 days, then a regular freezer will do. Remember to release the air from the bag.
In a jar of water
This method is easier, available to everyone. But you can save radishes only for 1-1.5 months:
- Take a dry and clean 0.5 liter jar.
- Fill it with boiled water at room temperature.
- Trim the tops and tails of the radishes.
- Add vegetables to a jar of water.
- Put it in the refrigerator.
- Refresh water every 4 days.
Note! Pour the water into the jar first, then add the vegetables. Note that they will displace excess water, so do not fill it entirely.
The method is not bad, but it will not preserve the radish for a long time. In addition, a significant part of the vitamins will be lost within a week.
Together with the tops
In this way, it will be possible to save the radish for a week.:
- Shake off the dirt from the radish, walk over the fruit with a damp cloth.
- Gather vegetables into small bunches.
- Do not cut off the tails.
- Place the bundle in a container of water. It is important that the tops are constantly hydrated.
The vitamin composition will not change much in a week, the taste will remain the same if you do not dry the tops. But, we repeat that such vegetables will not stand for longer than a week.
